Verdugo Fire and Rescue is a unique area-based fire agency. Covering three cities including South Pasadena, San Marino, and San Gabriel, Verdugo Fire and Rescue provides both fire and EMS services around the clock. CFPO has engaged with Verdugo Fire as a partner and we’re excited about this important collaboration.

Services provided by CFPO include:

  • FREE smoke alarms
  • FREE CO detectors
  • Neighborhood canvassing and free smoke alarm installations
  • School visits and creation of a “Junior Fire Inspector” cadre of students
  • A public safety fair

The South Pasadena Fire Department currently has 18 sworn personnel. In house staffing currently consists of 6 personnel on duty as follows; 1 Captain, 2 Engineers and 3 Firefighter/Paramedics each day. The department operates on a 48/96 schedule.

Battalion Chief coverage is provided by a contract agreement for management between the cities of South Pasadena, San Marino and San Gabriel. Battalion 9 operates from station 91 in San Marino.

Apparatus
Equipment is staffed as follows:
Engine 81 is a 2007 Pierce Arrow XT with 4 personnel (1 Captain, 2 Engineers and 1 FF/PM)
RA 81 is a 2009 E450 Type III ambulance with 2 Firefighter/Paramedics
Air Utility 81, a 1997 Freightliner FL70, is cross-staffed by the second Engineer from E 81

On January 11, 2016, Chief Mario Rueda took the helm as Chief of the Verdugo Cities Fire Command, overseeing the three independent fire departments in San Gabriel, San Marino, and South Pasadena.
